01 CarVouch at a glance

CarVouch is a UK used-car checking service for buyers before a viewing or deposit. It scans DVSA MOT history, DVLA vehicle data and advert text to identify risks. The platform is available as a web application and iOS app.

The free scan returns MOT timeline, mileage consistency, advert red flags, DVLA cross-check and a 0–100 risk score. No account is needed.

Full Vehicle Check (paid) adds Experian provenance data: outstanding finance, stolen markers, insurance write-off (MIAFTR), keeper and plate history, import/export flags, plus the full AI narrative, seller questions, viewing checklist and PDF report.

02 Who it is for

CarVouch is for UK used-car buyers before a viewing or deposit. It helps identify vehicles with hidden damage, mileage discrepancies or finance issues.

Users paste a UK registration plate and optionally the advert text, asking price, mileage and seller type into the scan form. The system analyses MOT history, mileage trends and advert wording to produce a risk assessment in seconds.

These are usage examples, not customer outcome claims.

03 Free scan

The free scan analyses DVSA MOT history, DVLA vehicle data and advert text to identify potential issues. It returns a 0–100 risk score, MOT timeline, mileage consistency check, advert red flags and DVLA cross-check.

Free scans do not include finance, stolen or write-off data. Those checks require a Full Vehicle Check.

  • MOT timeline: Test pass/fail history with advisories and failure reasons
  • Mileage consistency: Flags jumps, rollbacks or suspiciously low readings
  • Advert red flags: AI analysis of seller wording for warning signs
  • DVLA cross-check: Tax status, make, year, colour, fuel type, engine capacity
  • Risk score: 0–100 numerical assessment based on the findings

04 Full Vehicle Check

Full Vehicle Check adds Experian provenance data to the free scan: outstanding finance, stolen markers, insurance write-off (MIAFTR), keeper and plate history, import/export flags. It includes the full AI narrative, seller questions, viewing checklist and PDF report.

The check is protected by the Experian £20,000 Data Guarantee for 12 months, subject to Experian terms.

Users must have an account and purchase a check (available as 1, 3 or 10 packs). The report is generated within seconds and remains accessible indefinitely.

  • Finance: Outstanding agreements, HP, PCP or other secured lending
  • Stolen: Police stolen vehicle markers
  • Write-off: Insurance write-off categories (Cat A, B, C, D, S, N) from MIAFTR
  • Keeper history: Number of previous keepers and plate history
  • Import/export: Whether the vehicle has been imported or exported
  • AI narrative: Full written analysis of all findings
  • Viewing checklist: Tailored questions to ask the seller
  • PDF report: Downloadable PDF for offline viewing

05 How the AI analysis works

AI reads MOT tests, advisories and defects, mileage readings and advert wording to produce a written assessment. The verdict is "worth viewing", "view carefully", "negotiate strongly" or "avoid", with a 0–100 numerical score.

The AI analysis is included in the free scan (summary) and Full Vehicle Check (full narrative).

Reports are provided as-is. They are not a substitute for a mechanical inspection or professional vehicle assessment. They must not be the sole basis for a purchase decision.

06 Data sources

CarVouch uses DVSA MOT history API, DVLA vehicle registration data (Open Government Licence v3.0), and Experian provenance data (Full Vehicle Check only).

CarVouch is not affiliated with DVLA, DVSA, GOV.UK, Experian or HPI.

  • DVSA MOT history API: MOT test records, vehicle make and model, advisories, defects, pass/fail dates
  • DVLA vehicle registration data: Tax status, make, year of manufacture, colour, fuel type, engine capacity, CO2 emissions, MOT status (not keeper history)
  • Experian: Finance, stolen, write-off, keeper history, plate history (Full Vehicle Check only)

07 Pricing

The free scan is £0. Full Vehicle Check is available as 1 for £9.99, 3 for £24.99, or 10 for £59.99. Checks never expire. There is no subscription.

Payments are processed securely via Stripe or Square. Card payments, Apple Pay and Google Pay are supported where available.

Checks are non-refundable once completed. If a check fails due to a technical issue on CarVouch's side, it will be restored to the account.

08 Other free tools

CarVouch offers additional free tools: Car Match (AI used-car model recommendations), car tax check, road tax calculator, fuel prices, fuel cost calculator and recall check.

All free tools are available on the website with no sign-up required.

09 CarVouch vs HPI

CarVouch is not HPI. Full Vehicle Checks use Experian data (not HPI). The free scan uses only DVSA MOT and DVLA data.

HPI is a separate vehicle history checking service owned by Solera. CarVouch uses Experian as its provenance data provider for Full Vehicle Checks.
