Disclaimer & Limitations
Please read this page carefully before relying on any CarVouch scan or report. By using CarVouch you confirm that you have read and accepted the limitations set out below.
Nature of the service
CarVouch is an AI-assisted information and risk analysis tool. We collect, analyse and present data sourced from third-party APIs and user-supplied advert text. We do not independently inspect, test, drive, physically examine, appraise or verify any vehicle.
A CarVouch scan or report is not a mechanical inspection, a vehicle history check, a roadworthiness certificate, a valuation survey, an insurance appraisal, legal advice, financial advice, or a recommendation to buy, sell or finance any vehicle. Any purchase decision is made entirely at your own risk.
Free scan & AI report credits
Free scans and AI report credits use the following data sources only:
- DVLA Vehicle Enquiry Service — registered vehicle details (make, colour, fuel type, tax status, MOT summary, CO2 emissions, Euro status, V5C date).
- DVSA MOT History API — full recorded MOT test history, including pass/fail results, advisory items, defects and odometer readings.
- User-supplied advert text — scanned for red-flag phrases by our AI model. This is not verified against any database.
- AI analysis (OpenAI) — for AI report credits, an AI model analyses the above data and generates risk commentary, negotiation points, a viewing checklist and a risk score.
Free scans and AI credits do not access Experian finance, stolen, write-off or keeper databases.
Full Vehicle Check (Experian provenance)
When you purchase or run a CarVouch Full Vehicle Check, we additionally query Experian AutoCheck data (via One Auto API) for industry provenance, which may include:
- Outstanding finance on the Experian Finance Register
- Stolen vehicle markers (Police National Computer data via Experian)
- Insurance write-off and salvage indicators (MIAFTR and related sources)
- Keeper and cherished plate history, import/export/scrapped markers, and related identity data
Provenance sections in your report are labelled “Data provided by Experian”. MOT and tax summary data remain from DVSA/DVLA. CarVouch AI commentary is separate and is not provided by Experian.
Full Vehicle Checks include Experian’s AutoCheck Data Guarantee (currently £20,000 / 12 months on our default bundle), subject to Experian’s official Data Guarantee terms and our Terms of Service.
What no CarVouch product guarantees
- Physical condition, roadworthiness, or mechanical fitness
- That the seller is the legal owner or that the vehicle is free from undisclosed defects
- Mileage clocking — we flag statistical inconsistencies but cannot prove tampering
- Real-time accuracy — industry and government databases may be incomplete or delayed
Always verify VIN and V5C on the vehicle, inspect in person, and consider an independent mechanical inspection before paying a deposit.
AI-generated content
Full paid reports are generated using large language models (AI). AI can make errors, misinterpret data, or produce output that is incomplete or incorrect. All AI output is advisory only and must not be treated as professional mechanical, legal, financial or safety advice. A favourable AI risk score is not a guarantee that the vehicle is roadworthy, legally owned by the seller, or free from undisclosed problems.
Data accuracy and "as-is" basis
DVLA and DVSA records may be incomplete, out of date, delayed, or missing entirely for some vehicles. A vehicle may have outstanding finance, a theft marker, or an insurance write-off record that has not yet been recorded or propagated through the databases we query. Reports reflect the state of source databases at the time of the query and may differ from current reality.
CarVouch reports are provided on an "as-is" basis. We take reasonable care to present data accurately, but we cannot warrant that any report is complete, accurate or fit for any particular purpose.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, CarVouch, its directors, employees and affiliates shall not be liable for any loss or damage arising from use of, or reliance on, any CarVouch scan or report. This includes financial loss from purchasing a vehicle, losses from data inaccuracies, or any indirect or consequential losses.
Our total liability for any claim arising from a single report shall not exceed the amount you paid for that report. For free scans, our total liability is limited to £1 (one pound sterling).
Nothing in this disclaimer excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded under the laws of England and Wales.
What you should do before buying
Before purchasing or taking delivery of any used vehicle, we strongly recommend that you:
- Physically inspect the vehicle and compare the VIN/chassis plate against the V5C logbook.
- Run a full vehicle history check covering outstanding finance, stolen status, write-off history and keeper count (CarVouch Full Vehicle Check or an HPI-style check).
- Arrange an independent pre-purchase mechanical inspection.
- Verify tax and MOT status directly on GOV.UK.
- Do not pay a non-refundable deposit before completing all checks.
