Data guarantee
CarVouch Full Vehicle Check includes Experian’s AutoCheck Data Guarantee — £20,000 financial limit · 12 months from your check date.
Important
This page is a plain-English summary for UK consumers researching CarVouch. The legally binding guarantee is provided by Experian under their AutoCheck Data Guarantee Terms and Conditions. You must read and accept those terms when purchasing a Full Vehicle Check.
What the guarantee is for
The guarantee protects you against financial loss if specific provenance data in your Experian AutoCheck report was wrong at the time the check was performed — for example, if the report showed no outstanding finance but finance was recorded on the Experian Finance Register, or if a stolen marker existed on the Police National Computer but was not shown.
It does not cover the physical condition of the car, general valuations, fuel economy, or seller misrepresentation outside the covered data categories.
What is typically covered
Subject to Experian’s full terms, covered data issues include:
- Outstanding finance not shown when recorded on the Experian Finance Register at check time
- Category A or B write-off not shown (or not shown correctly) when recorded by an insurer on MIAFTR/salvage data
- Stolen vehicle marker not shown when the vehicle was reported stolen before the check
- Other write-off categories not shown or shown at a lower category than recorded
- Import or export markers not shown when recorded with DVLA
- Keeper count lower than DVLA records (fixed compensation under Experian terms)
- Colour mismatch vs DVLA (fixed compensation under Experian terms)
Limits and duration
- Financial limit: £20,000 (Increased Guarantee tier selected for CarVouch Full Vehicle Check)
- Duration: 12 months from the date the AutoCheck service was performed
- Cap per claim: Generally the lower of market value at claim time or the financial limit — see Experian terms for each category
HPI’s own consumer product advertises a different guarantee (up to £30,000 under HPI’s terms). CarVouch does not provide HPI’s guarantee — only Experian’s as part of our AutoCheck package.
What is not covered (examples)
- Cloned or ringed vehicles (false registration or VIN)
- Purchase if you already knew or should have known the data was wrong
- Motor trade purchases (guarantee is structured for consumer/reseller compliance — confirm eligibility in Experian terms)
- Large cash payments above thresholds in Experian terms
- Buying despite seller information contradicting the report
- Issues arising before first DVLA registration
- DVLA data accuracy — guarantee covers that we reported DVLA data faithfully, not that DVLA is always correct
Your responsibilities before you buy
To support any future claim, Experian expects buyers to act with due care, including:
- Run the Full Vehicle Check before you purchase the vehicle
- Confirm the VIN on the vehicle and V5C matches the report
- Confirm registration and details match the vehicle you are viewing
- Confirm the seller matches the registered keeper on the V5C where applicable
- Confirm the vehicle has a valid MOT where legally required
- Ask the seller directly about finance and write-off history; do not proceed if they contradict the report
How to make a claim
Claims are handled under Experian’s AutoCheck claims process, not a separate CarVouch insurance policy. When the Full Vehicle Check is live, we will publish CarVouch support contact details and link to Experian’s claim form.
